“Racism is a sign of a lack of psychological maturity and integration.”

At Revolutionized Brands®, we are dedicated to fostering a community that embraces understanding and unity. As you navigate this site, we invite you to consider the work of scholars like author and psychology professor Dr Steve Taylor. In his work “The Psychology of Racism”, Dr Taylor points out that the prominence of prejudice within the human race has led to the erroneous belief that it is innate to our nature. Rather, racism is “a psychological defense mechanism generated by feelings of insecurity and inadequacy.” Grappling with mortality induces these states and makes a person “more prone to status-seeking, materialism, greed, prejudice, and aggression. They are more likely to conform to culturally accepted attitudes and to identify with [labels like] their national or ethnic groups.” These social constructs are organizational categories based on where in the world one happens to be born and to whom. Over identification with a socially constructed group occurs when allegiance to the fabricated group obfuscates or prohibits valuing the lives of others and the living planet we share. If someone is led to believe that the particular in-group they over-identify with is under threat, they become pawns, readily manipulated by both those in power and those they look up to. By recognizing and addressing what lays beneath issues like racism, we seek to prevent such beliefs from undermining our collective goal of unity.
